What The Sound Collective Live Ensemble Is & How It Functions

The Sound Collective Live Ensemble is a member-only performance ensemble at Sound Collective designed to give students real, ongoing experience playing music with others in a structured but low-pressure environment.

• Open to all Sound Collective members at no additional cost

• Meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00-8:00pm

• Led by a rotating professional band leader hired by Sound Collective

• No formal skill-level requirement, but the ensemble operates at a musically competent level

• Each quarter focuses on a single genre decided by the ensemble the previous month (ex: funk, hip-hop, electronic, jazz, pop, etc.)

Each session focuses on:

• Learning and rehearsing repertoire

• Developing ensemble skills (timing, listening, arrangement, transitions)

• Preparing for a live performance context

At the end of each quarter, Sound Collective will coordinate a live performance for the ensemble. Performances may take place at Sound Collective or at partner venues around NYC, depending on availability and interest.

The Sound Collective Live Ensemble is not a class and does not move at a beginner pace. Members with less experience are welcome, but should expect to learn by immersion rather than instruction.
