About Course
The Intro to DJ Scratching course introduces DJs to the art of scratching with a strong focus on gear fluency, turntable mechanics, and foundational scratch techniques. Whether on vinyl, Serato, or controller platters, students gain hands-on experience in controlling the decks with precision and creativity. Through weekly practice, feedback, and performance-based goals, students build confidence to incorporate scratching into their DJ sets and develop their own unique sound.
- Turntable Mechanics and Setup
Learn tone arm adjustment, needle types, platter control, and calibration.
- Foundational Scratch Techniques
Practice baby, stab, and release scratches with timing drills.
- Scratch Patterns and Layering
Combine scratches into structured combos with rhythm and phrasing.
- Intermediate Scratches
Learn scribble, chirp, and transform scratches with transitions.
- Routine Building and Beat Juggling
Build structured scratch routines, practice crowd delivery, and explore basic juggling.
- Final Performance
Perform a 5–10 minute routine demonstrating scratch control and phrasing.
- 12 hours of in-person instruction at our NYC Facility
- Practice time on the day of your class
- 4 Day passes to be used on non-class days
